Why Do Juventus Play In Pink?

Before the stripes, there was pink. The story of how Juventus's away shirt keeps returning to where it all began.

An Englishman In Turin

Long before black and white, Juventus played in pink. There was just one problem: it faded fast in the wash. Sorting it out fell to John Savage, an Englishman playing at the club in the early 1900s.

Savage had a friend with contacts at Notts County, who sent a set of the Magpies' famous black and white stripes over to Turin. Juventus were sold instantly, and the rest is history. The home kit changed forever, but the pink never fully disappeared.

Pink, Again And Again

Since that switch over a century ago, Juventus have returned to pink time and again through the away kit, each version a quiet nod to those earliest days before Notts County came calling.

The Shirt Drake Made Famous

2015-16 marked adidas's first season manufacturing the Juventus kit, and this was the away shirt they launched with. It could have been just another release. Instead, Paul Pogba gifted one to a friend: Drake.

"Got the rose pink tinted lenses, it's a Wednesday" Drake, "4PM In Calabasas" (2016)

The song landed alongside a photo of Drake wearing the shirt, and demand exploded overnight. It became one of the shirts credited with pulling football jerseys into streetwear culture, and remains one of the most sought-after Juventus shirts in the archive today.

Built On A Soft Pink Base

Built On A Soft Pink Base

The new shirt is built on a soft pink base with an engineered zebra pattern running through the fabric adding depth and texture. The collar, cuffs and the three stripes on the shoulders are picked out in sharp black, with a reworked collar construction for a cleaner silhouette. The crest sits on the chest alongside a heritage-inspired execution of the trefoil. While being built for performance underneath, with adidas's latest CLIMACOOL+ technology.
