Unión is known for being founded by Spanish immigrants in the late XIX century, making them the second oldest club in Chile, as well as sharing the same colours and nickname as the Spanish national team, La Furia Roja. During this season, Unión finished 4th in the Primera División which earned them a spot in the Copa Libertadores second stage for the following campaign
