Third shirt as worn in a tense La Liga campaign for Los Colchoneros, who were neck-and-neck with local rivals Real Madrid atop the table for much of the campaign. Atleti would hold the #1 spot fron 7th November onwards, only suffering one wobble in late April, but headed into the final game week still needing a win to secure the title. Disaster struck after Valladolid opened the scoring early, but second half goals from Ángel Correa and top-scorer Luis Suárez rescued the season for Atletico and brought them their second league title in the Diego Simeone era amidst emotional scenes at the José Zorrilla stadium. In the Champions League, the side negotiated a tough group stage, showing their typical grit to finish runners up despite having a negative goal difference, but would lose out to eventual winners Chelsea in the Round of 16
