The 2019-20 campaign delivered an unprecedented and historic season for Atalanta, as La Dea surged to a spectacular third-place finish in Serie A with a club-record 78 points and an astonishing 98 league goals, the highest tally in over 60 years. Spearheading this relentless attack were the Colombian strikers Luis Muriel and Duván Zapata, who each netted 18 league goals in a season that also saw the club reach the UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals for the first time in their history. Muriel earned legendary status as a super-sub, achieving his 18 goals despite starting only 10 matches, in a season built on the incredible creative genius of captain Papu Gómez and dedicated to their home city of Bergamo during a period of immense difficulty.
