The 2019-20 campaign was a turbulent and transitional season for Anderlecht, marking the club's first failure to secure European qualification in 56 years. The year began with the emotional return of club legend Vincent Kompany as a player-manager, aiming to restore the 'Anderlecht DNA,' before a mid-season change brought stability under Franky Vercauteren. The Purple and White ultimately secured an 8th-place finish after the league was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, led in attack by the exciting Dutch midfielder Michel Vlap, whose 10 goals provided a much-needed attacking spark.
