Away shirt as worn when the Black Cats finished fifth in League 1 and reached the Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley. Irish wing wizard Aiden McGeady opened the scoring for the Mackems, but agonising late goals from Pompey at the end of regulation and extra time threatened to spoil Sunderland's day early, before McGeady again proved the hero with a 119th minute equaliser to take the game to penalties. Unfortunately, club legend Lee Cattermole saw his penalty saved, resulting in yet another tragedy for the North East club
