The 2015-16 campaign delivered a glorious return to history for Benfica as Os Encarnados clinched their 35th Primeira Liga title, achieving the club's first tricampeonato (three-in-a-row) since 1977. Leading the charge was the prolific forward Jonas, whose sensational 32 goals in the league earned him the Bola de Prata (Silver Ball) for top scorer and powered the team to a Portuguese record of 88 points, narrowly winning a dramatic, season-long "titanic fight" with rivals Sporting CP on the final matchday. It was a golden year that cemented manager Rui Vitória's legacy and saw the club reach the UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals.
