The 2013-14 campaign delivered a highly respectable 3rd-place finish for Beşiktaş in their 110th season, which secured a critical spot in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. Leading the charge was the powerful Portuguese centre-forward Hugo Almeida, whose 14 Süper Lig goals anchored the attack in his final full season at the club. However, the season was dramatically defined by a major off-field setback, as the Black Eagles were tragically expelled from the UEFA Europa League by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, despite defeating Tromsø in the Play-off Round, due to a previous match-fixing ban.
