Away shirt as worn when the side finished 3rd place in the Bundesliga and once again would have a great run in Europe, reaching the Quarter-Finals only to lose out to Athletic Bilbao in a 6-4 aggregate goal-fest. This design was carried over to the following season which follwed a similar pattern as Schalke reached the Knockout Stage of the Champions League and finished the Bundesliga in 4th.
