Home shirt as worn when Martin O’Neill guided Villa to a 6th place finish in the Premier League, however, an eight game winless run in the second half of the season meant it was a disappointing end to a campaign that had the Villa faithful dreaming of Champions League football. The season began with O’Neill strengthening the Villa backline with a number of defensive signings including Curtis Davies from West Brom and Brad Friedel from Blackburn Rovers. Despite these defensive signings, it was a season of exciting attacking football at Villa Park characterised by a 3-2 away victory over Everton, in which Ashley Young won it with the last kick of the game after Joleon Lescott looked to have nicked a point for the Toffees at the death. John Carew ended the campaign as the top scorer in all competitions with 15 goals and tricky winger Ashley Young was named PFA Young Player of the Year
