The 2006-07 campaign was a season of significant transition for Ipswich Town, as former player Jim Magilton took the managerial helm and steered The Tractor Boys to a respectable 14th-place finish in the Championship. Leading the charge was the powerful Irish striker Alan Lee, whose 16 league goals (17 in all competitions) proved decisive, highlighted by a memorable hat-trick in the 5-0 thrashing of Luton Town and the late goal at Elland Road that secured Leeds United's relegation.
