The 2005-06 campaign was a season of ultimate heartbreak for Ternana as the Rossoverdi finished a crushing 20th in Serie B, which resulted in their relegation to the third tier of Italian football. Despite the devastating outcome, the season was defined by the prolific scoring of their talismanic striker, Mario Frick, whose 15 crucial league goals proved decisive in their desperate, but ultimately unsuccessful, battle to avoid the drop. It was a dark year that ended their eight-season stay in the Italian second division and remains a painful chapter in the club's modern history.
