Trailing the first leg 1-0 Roma would have to at least score to have a chance to qualify. After an early opener from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, La Lupa had a mountain to climb and managed to drag two goals back. However it wasn't enough as Boro went through on away goals after the tie ended 2-2 after the two legs
