The former Manchester United star joined the Sky Blues from Fulham and bagged 10 goals in 23 appearances to help steer City clear of relegation with a 15th place Premiership finish. Highlights for the 15 time England international included braces in wins over West Ham and Charlton as well as a goal in the 3-0 thumping of former club Newcastle at the City of Manchester Stadium. This was to be his only season with the Citizens he joined Portsmouth in the summer of 2006 later had spells with Sunderland and Nottingham Forest before retiring in 2008. A clinical striker who scored goals wherever he went Cole was undoubtedly best known for his time on the other side of Manchester with United where he famously won 5 Premier League titles including one in the historic treble season of 1998-99 where the Old Trafford side famously also bagged the FA Cup and Champions League with that famous win over Bayern Munich.
