Notes - Centenary home shirt celebrating 100 years of Chelsea Football Club, as worn when Jose Mourinho's side retained their Premier League title. Despite failing to break their own points record set in the previous season, the Blues steamrollered their way to another title, finishing eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester United. The signings of Shaun Wright Phillips, Michael Essien and Asier Del Horno would prove worthwhile, as all three became regular starters and important parts of the Chelsea machine that won all but one of their home league games, drawing the other. Makélélé was signed by previous manager Claudio Ranieri who dubbed the former Real Madrid man the "battery" of the team. The Frenchman was a revelation in central midfield, playing as Chelsea's deep-lying playmaker, later labelled the 'Makélélé role' such was the Frenchman's success in the position. Makélélé made a total of 217 appearances for Chelsea before leaving for PSG in 2008
