The 2003-04 campaign delivered a deeply frustrating season for Napoli as Partenopei finished a precarious 14th in Serie B, an outcome that directly preceded the club's complete financial collapse. Leading the line was veteran striker Davide Dionigi, whose 8 goals proved crucial in a campaign built on struggle near the foot of the second division. This season was instantly overshadowed by the club's devastating bankruptcy in August 2004, which resulted in administrative relegation to the third tier, Serie C1, marking a painful and defining end to the historic SSC Napoli before its eventual rebirth.
