Player - Tough tackling Uruguayan international defensive midfielder Gonzalo de los Santos #22
Features
Notes - Extremely rare player shirt believed to have been worn by de los Santos in the Champions League Group B match against Liverpool played at the Mestalla on the 17th September 2002. Valencia started their campaign here with a fine 2-0 victory over the English giants. Argentina maestro Pablo Aimar was in delightful form scoring the first goal with Baraja making it two before half-time. de los Santos started on the bench but came on for Albelda on 84 minutes. He featured in 4 of the side's 14 CL matches this season as despite reaching the Final in the previous two campaigns Los Che were knocked out in the Quarters on away goals this time round. The Uruguayan had joined the side from Málaga the previous year and helped Los murciélagos lift the La Liga title. He stayed on with the side until 2006 when he joined Hércules.
