The Washington Capitals enjoyed a highly successful 2000-01 season, capturing the Southeast Division title with a strong 41-27-10-4 record. Under head coach Ron Wilson, the team was led by the legendary Adam Oates, who recorded 82 points, and sniper Peter Bondra, who netted an impressive 45 goals. Goaltender Olaf Kolzig anchored the defense with 37 wins and five shutouts, helping the Capitals secure the third seed in the Eastern Conference. Although their campaign ended in a hard-fought opening-round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the season remained a standout year for the franchise and its fans.
