Player - Veteran defender Catalino Rivarola #3
Features
Notes - Extremely rare player shirt believed to have been worn by Rivarola for the friendly match against Holland played at Philips Stadium, Eindhoven on the 1st June 1998. The match was a warm-up for the upcoming 1998 World Cup in France and Paraguay raced into an early lead here thanks to a long range Jorge Luis Campos volley. Unfortunately the Dutch responded with 5 goals to cruise to an emphatic 5-1 victory. Rivarola started the match but came off for Pedro Sarabia at half time as both sides made mass changes. The defender had been a regular for his country since back in 1988 but would earn just 2 more caps after this loss to Holland. He was named in the side's World Cup squad for France 98' but didn make an appearance as Los Guaraníes impressed at the Finals earning draws with Bulgaria and Spain before beating Nigeria to reach the Round of 16 losing out to eventual winners France.
