The 2nd tier side would also go on an inspired run in the League Cup, reaching the final. Despite losing 2-1 away at Anfield in the first leg of the semi-finals, the side would overturn the deficit at home beating the Premiership giants 2-0 and progressing to the final, where they would be overcome by another Premiership giant, Chelsea, after taking the game to extra time
