The 1985 Minnesota Vikings season was highlighted by the return of legendary head coach Bud Grant, who led the team to a competitive 7-9 record and a third-place finish in the NFC Central. The season began on a high note with a thrilling 28-21 victory over the defending Super Bowl champion San Francisco 49ers and featured several standout individual performances, including quarterback Tommy Kramer throwing for over 3,500 yards and wide receiver Anthony Carter’s impressive debut season. Additionally, the team celebrated the emergence of future Hall of Fame defensive end Chris Doleman, who was selected fourth overall in the draft, and saw safety Joey Browner earn Pro Bowl honors.
