Notes - Ultra rare sponsorless version of the away shirt as worn over three seasons during Elton John's ownership of the Hornets. With Graham Taylor at the helm for the first two seasons of this design's use, the side competed in the First Division finishing 12th and 9th respectively. Taylor would leave at the end of the 86/87 season for Aston Villa with Dave Bassett replacing him. A poor start would see Bassett sacked and replaced by Steve Harrison who could not prevent relegation at the end of the 87/88 season
