The Philadelphia Flyers enjoyed a successful 1980-81 season, finishing second in the Patrick Division with a strong 41-24-15 record. Led by captain Mel Bridgman and high-scoring forward Bill Barber, who netted 43 goals, the team demonstrated remarkable consistency and defensive prowess, allowing the second-fewest goals in the league. A significant highlight occurred when legendary center Bobby Clarke reached his 1,000th career point. In the postseason, the Flyers displayed great resilience by winning a five-game opening series against the Quebec Nordiques and pushing the Calgary Flames to a full seven games in the quarterfinals.
