Player - Reliable and assured Germany international defensive midfielder Dietmar Hamann #16
Features
Notes - Extremely rare player shirt believed to have been issued to or worn by Hamann in the 2002-03 UEFA Cup campaign. The Reds moved into the UEFA Cup after being edged out of their Champions League group by Valencia and FC Basel. The side beat Vitesse Arnhem and Auxerre as they looked to repeat their 2001 triumph in the competition but lost out in a 'Battle of Britain' Quarter Final tie with Celtic. Hamann was first choice in central midfield alongside Steven Gerrard during this time but was rested for some of the games in this competition, featuring in 4 out of the 6 and starting both matches with Celtic. This special European shirt had also been used in the 01-02 Champions League campaign but was only worn to this specification without a sleeve patch in the 02-03 UEFA Cup run. The DFB midfielder became an Anfield favourite during his 7 year spell at the club and he will be forever remembered for his role in the incredible 2005 Champions League triumph in Istanbul
