Notes - Very rare player shirt believed to have been worn by Kafkas in the 1998 World Cup Qualification Group 7 match against Holland, played at Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on 2nd of April 1997. This the first time the sides had met in the group. The Dutch were in fine form and hadn't lost a game, meanwhile Ay-Yıldızlılar had a mixed bag of results losing to Belgium, thumping San Marino 7-0, and drawing with Wales 0-0. Following a goalless first half it was the hosts who broke the deadlock just minutes after the break with legendary striker Hakan Sükür rising highest to head home a perfect cross. Late on a soft foul on Van Hooijdonk saw the Spanish referee point to the spot but the Dutch penalty was skied high over the bar by Clarence Seedorf and the Turks walked away with an historic win. Kafkas played the full match, despite the win the side narrowly missed out on qualification for France 98'. He earned 33 caps for his country between 1994-98 scoring 3 goals. The midfielder left Trabzonspor in the summer of 1997 after 4 years at the club to join Galatasaray, he later spent time with various other Turkish clubs before enjoying spells in Austria with Linz and Admira.
