The scores stayed the same and the match went to penalties where United eventually prevailed 9-8 after a lengthy shootout which saw some superb saves from Joel Castro Pereira and Pepe Reina. Kessié found the net with his spot kick, the Ivorian was embarking on his second season with the side on loan from Atalanta and made 42 appearances in all competitions bagging 7 goals as Il Diavolo finished 5th in Serie A. Highlights for the midfielder including goals in big wins over Roma, Parma and Lazio as well as a brace in the thrilling 3-2 victory over SPAL on the final day of the season.
