Caleb Porter led the side to 3rd in the Western Conference meaning they had to get past Sporting Kansas City, Vancouver Whitecaps, and FC Dallas to set up a showdown with Eastern Conference runners-up Columbus Crew. Diego Valeri scored the fastest goal in MLS Cup history at 27 seconds before Rodney Wallace doubled the lead, the Crew got a goal back through Kei Kamara but the Timbers held on for their first MLS Cup. The side would keep this shirt for the following campaign, with a star added to mark the triumph
