In an injury hit season the Belgian made 25 appearances across the campaign, scoring 3 goals, contributing to his total of more than 175 match for The Blues. This was his third season with the Toffees after he had joined them from Standard Liège in 2008. He became a fan favourite with the Goodison Park faithful due to his dominant performances and notable Afro hairstyle, before he departed in 2013 to link up with former manager David Moyes at Manchester United. In 2007 he won his first cap for Belgium, going on to make 87 appearances in total before his international retirement at the start of 2019
