Notes - Home shirt as worn in the seasons in which Arsenal finished in fourth and third place respectively. As the club was adjusting to life without the bulk of the Invicibles squad, Arsene Wenger would have to adjust the new business model of selling players on for a profit. In the 2008 season this meant the loss of silky playmaker Alexander Hleb to Barcelona. Young Marseille midfielder Samir Nasri was signed as his replacement, along with the protracted winter signing of Russian wing wizard Andrey Arshavin. A similar story would occur in 2009 with the losses of Adebayor and Kolo Toure. Ultimately, the Gunners were now on a run of settling for a still impressive top four finish rather than truly challenging for titles, something that would be a topic of major discussion for the fanbase in later years.
