Der Dino lost out 1-0 in this one to a second half Leonardo strike. The side won all their other group matches though, dispatching of Žilina, Slavia Prague and Aston Villa to reach the knockout stages where they made the Semi-Finals before losing out to arch rivals Werder Bremen in a European Nordderby. de Jong was an unused substitute for this fixture, he made 16 appearances for Hamburg this season but transferred to Premier League outfit Manchester City in January 2009 for an estimated £18 million. The Dutch international left Germany after making 84 appearances for Die Rothosen in 4 seasons with the club, he later had spells with AC Milan, LA Galaxy and Galatasaray and earned a superb 81 caps for his country on the international stage between 2004-15.
