Notes - Very rare player shirt believed to have been worn by de Jong for the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen, played at HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg on 7th May 2008. Bremen had pipped Der Dino in the first league meeting between these sides back in December running out 2-1 winners at the Weserstadion. This match was another fiery Nordderby with 10 bookings handed out as well as 2 red cards, many thought Bremen keeper Tim Wiese should've also received a red for a horror challenge on Ivica Olić. A close game was decided by Hugo Almeida's 50th minute strike and despite Hamburg having a man advantage following Frank Baummnn's 57th minute dismissal Die Rothosen couldn't find a goal. De Jong played the full match and was surprisingly one of few players not to pick up a caution, the Dutchman made 35 appearances for the side this season and bagged 2 goals to help them to a 4th place finish in the Bundesliga. He left Hamburg for Manchester City in January 2009 after making 84 appearances for Die Rothosen in 4 seasons with the club, he later had spells with AC Milan, LA Galaxy and Galatasaray and earned a superb 81 caps for his country on the international stage between 2004-15.
