Home shirt as worn in the dramatic Champions League Final comeback when Gerrard inspired the side to come from 3-0 down against the mighty AC Milan to draw 3-3 and win the trophy on penalties in Istanbul. The Reds made up for a disappointing domestic season where the side finished 5th in the Premier League and lost out in the League Cup final to Chelsea by adding the club’s 5th Champions League trophy. Liverpool made the worst start possible to the Champions League Final with Paolo Maldini volleying in Andrea Pirlo’s free kick in the first minute. Hernan Crespo then added two quickfire goals in the 39th and 44th minute to leave the Reds 3-0 down at half time. What happened in the second half would go down in history as one of the most remarkable recoveries in Champions League history with Liverpool turning the tie on its head in the space of 6 minutes. Gerrard started the revival, heading past Dida from a Riise cross in the 54th minute. Just two minutes later Vladimir Šmicer’s long-range strike beat Dida to his bottom left corner. The revival was complete when Gerrard was brought down by Gennaro Gattuso, Xabi Alonso stepped up to take the penalty which Dida saved but Alonso buried the rebound to bring Liverpool level. The scores would stay level through to 90 minutes and all of extra time. Penalties were where Jerzy Dudek would become the hero for Liverpool with his Bruce Grobbelaar-like spaghetti legs antics. The Pole clearly affected Serginho who blazed his shot over the bar and then saved from Andrea Pirlo to put Liverpool 2-0 up. Riise saw his penalty saved and Tomasson and Kaká both scored to bring the scores level to 2-2. Šmicer scored to put the decisive penalty in the hands of star striker Andriy Shevchenko who hit his penalty straight down the middle for Dudek to save and complete the most unlikely comeback in Champions League history
