The Andorrans were making their debut in World Cup Qualifying and narrowly lost out to Cyprus and Estonia in their opening two games before falling to a 3-0 defeat against Portugal. The Dutch ran out 5-0 winners in this one after goals from Patrick Kluivert, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Mark van Bommel and a Pierre van Hooijdonk brace. García was an unused substitute for the match and featured in 2 of the side's 10 qualifiers. The midfielder had earned his first cap back in 1997 and featured 40 times in total for his country. The Tricolors went on to finish bottom of the group with 10 defeats in 10 matches and a -31 goal difference.
