Notes - Home shirt as worn in the two seasons the Blues recorded 4th and 6th place finishes in the Premiership and reached the FA Cup final. Di Matteo continued his long road to recovery after suffering a triple leg fracture early into the 2000-01 season. The Italian eventually called time on his playing career in February 2002 and retired at the age of 31. In his six years at Chelsea, he made 175 appearances and scored 26 goals and firmly established himself as a cult hero among Chelsea fans for his efforts in their resurgence during the 90's, playing a pivotal role in securing the F.A. Cup, Cup Winners' Cup and Football League Cup
