Iceland had never beaten their Nordic rivals Denmark but took the lead in this one thanks to Eyjolfur Sverrisson's 9th minute strike. Jon Dahl Tomasson hit back for the visitors inside half an hour and Morten Bisgaard bagged just after the break to turn the tables and take all 3 points for Morten Olsen's men. Hreiðarsson played the full match in defence adn Iceland went on to finish 4th in Group 3. The former Crystal Palace man earned a super 89 caps in total for his country between 1996-2011 netting 5 goals and spent the majority of his club career in England with Ipswich, Charlton and Portsmouth, winning the FA Cup with Pompey in 2008.
