Notes - Very rare player shirt believed to have been worn by Abou in a Premier League match against Liverpool played at Anfield on the 2nd May 1998. This was the penultimate game of the season and The Hammers had enjoyed a great campaign up in 7th place. The away fans were not given much to cheer here though as Liverpool cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory. Goals from Owen, McAteer and Leonhardsen made it 4-0 before half-time with Ince adding another after the hour mark. Abou was sent on in the 52nd minute by Harry Redknapp in the hope of adding some respectability to the scoreline. The Ivorian striker had moved to Upton Park from AS Cannes in October '97 and became a cult hero with his name famously booed in appreciation. Abou's first season with the club was his best though and he was loaned out numerous times afterwards
