Notes - Extremely rare player shirt believed to have been issued to or worn by John Barnes between 1997 and 1998 when the former England midfielder played for the Magpies after departing Liverpool when he had spent almost 10 years, teaming up again with his former manager and Liverpool legend, Kenny Daglish. With injuries to key strikers Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand, Barnes played largely in an unfamiliar role upfront for the Toon for most of the 1997-98 campaign, playing 39 games and scoring 7 goals to end top scorer as the side finished 13th in the Premier League. He would later make one more appearance for the side at the start of the 1998-99 season before leaving the side to play for his final club Charlton in 1999. In the following years Barnes would try his hand at management, with spells at Celtic, Tranmere and Tranmere. Despite his unsuccessful foray into coaching Barnes is still remembered as a legend of English football - ending with 79 caps for England and numerous accolades including often being voted as Liverpools greatest player of all time
