Notes - Goalkeeper shirt as worn in Roy Evans' last full season in charge when the side finished 3rd and were beaten by Strasbourg in the UEFA Cup 2nd Round. During the 1997-98 campaign James kept an impressive 11 clean sheets in 27 Premier League appearances. An ever present in the Premier League since its opening season, James would go on to set the record for most clean sheets in total in the League with 169 in 572 appearances between 5 different clubs, however this would later be beaten by Petr Cech.
