Notes - Ultra rare player shirt believed to have been issued to or worn by van't Schip during the 1994-95 season. It was a difficult campaign for Il Grifone, the side had come close to the drop in the previous season and this year their flirtation with relegation reached dangerous levels and ultimately ended in heartbreak. Genoa finished 15th in Serie A and lost on penalties to Padova in the relagation playoff. Despite scoring his spot kick van't Schip could prevent Genoa from dropping down into Serie B. The highlight of the unfortunate campaign for both Genoa and van't Schip was undoubtedly the side's 2-1 victory over arch rivals Sampdoria in the Derby della Lanterna on matchday 29. van't Schip had cancelled out David Platt's opener with a trademark mazy run and finish before Czech international Tomáš Skuhravý completed the comeback from the spot provoking some iconic celebrations at the Marassi. The former Ajax man made over 100 appearances for Genoa between 1992-96 before retiring and turning his talents to coaching. Teams in Serie A didn't start wearing namesets on shirts until the 1995-96 season and so its likely this shirt was worn during a friendly in preparation for the following campaign.
