This was a clash of the two top teams in the group and with only top spot earning qualification to the Final's it was a crucial encounter. Switzerland could really do with the win and looked to be on course when they went 2-0 ahead before half-time thanks to goals from Chapuisat and Hermann. But the Tartan Army would not go down easy and managed to recover to draw 2-2 with Ally McCoist scoring an 83rd minute equaliser. Sutter started the match but was withdrawn after an hour with boss Ulrich Stielike looking to shut up shop. The enigmatic star would go on to play for Bayern Munich and dazzle at the 1994 World Cup, representing his country 68 times in total
